Why Luxury Vinyl Plank?

There’s some things in life that we will always be wary of in our homes. Appliances malfunctioning, children or guests spilling, the dog peeing on the floor. These are the things never fail to be the leading causes of stress when it comes to the longevity of our floors and prior to about ten years ago, there was little to be done to rectify that without installing tile. Cold, sometimes uncomfortable to stand on, tile. Thankfully, technology has changed drastically and there’s a new option out there… luxury vinyl plank. You’ll hear it called LVP, vinyl, a floating floor - but it all leads back to luxury vinyl and it has become synonymous with “water-proof” flooring. Let’s dive into some of the pros and cons of this kind of flooring so you as a consumer have all the facts.

First, some initial positives about LVP. Customers and trade professionals alike love it for the price point and the ease of installation. With most luxury vinyl plank, it comes with an attached backing which means the most labor intensive part of your job is actually removal of the existing floor. Speaking of existing floor, LVP can actually go over tile provided the material is thick enough, (typically about 5.5 MM to ensure grout will not transfer through the product). This means you can complete your project over the course of a few days as opposed to the week to two weeks for wood or tile. It also does not take a craftsman to install it, which makes it an ideal choice for DIY’ers. An added benefit is it’s water and scratch resistance - because it is composed of more stable, compressed product it makes it harder to scratch or indent and the tight locking system prevents water from seeping through the bevels of the planks.

Now there are some drawbacks to LVP - one of the biggest being that it does not add to the resale value of your home like other products. Wood and tile are one of the best things you can do to add equity and value into the home in a way that luxury vinyl does not. LVP doesn’t have the same texture as true wood either, (although there are better and more realistic looks coming out each year) and some inferior products have a more hollow sound that many customers notice and dislike.

Overall, luxury vinyl is a great option explore for active homes, those with pets or children or quick remodels. Stop by today and check out our many options so we can guide you in picking out the perfect floor for your home.
